Opening with just 750 seats in 1947, the Martinsville Speedway is the shortest super speedway on the NASCAR circuit. At little more than a half mile, Martinsville Speedway is a paper clip shaped track with 12 degree banking on the turns. Other than the track’s surface being paved in 1955, the track configuration remains unchanged. Martinsville Speedway today holds 65,000 adoring NASCAR fans and is still the only original NASCAR sanctioned track hosting Sprint Cup events.
Martinsville Speedway continually improves the track such as adding a new entrance off US 58 for race day traffic, new scoreboard, all pits are now on one pit road, an overhead walkway from the grandstand to the parking area and an infield tunnel.
Martinsville Speedway hosts two Sprint Cup events per season with the first being the Goody’s Cool Orange 500 in March and the Subway 500 in October. Martinsville Speedway no longer hosts the former Busch series as of 2007 when Circuit Giles Villeneuve in Montreal was added.
As far as seating goes for Martinsville Speedway, the Blue Ridge Tower are the best seats in the house. No matter where you sit in the Blue Ridge Tower, you are close to the start/finish line with a great view of the pits. When selecting your seat, choose a high row if you prefer to get a good view of the entire track.
